History of the Department

History of the Department
.The Department of Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) was started in the year 2010 with the introduction of the B.Tech program. The department began its journey with an initial intake of 120 students, aimed at providing a strong foundation in computer science and technological innovation. Over the years, through its continuous commitment to academic excellence, modern teaching methodologies, and industry alignment, the intake has expanded to 270 students, reflecting the department’s steady growth and its reputation for producing skilled graduates ready to meet global industry demands.
In 2013, the department introduced the M.Tech program with an intake of 6 students, creating opportunities for advanced learning, specialized training, and applied research in various domains of computer science. The postgraduate curriculum is designed to provide both theoretical depth and practical experience, fostering the ability to solve complex real-world problems through computational thinking and innovation.
The department has achieved a significant milestone by being recognized as a Research Centre by Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Hyderabad (JNTUH). This recognition has enabled the department to expand its academic offerings to include Ph.D. programs, attracting scholars from across the region. Several research scholars have enrolled and are currently pursuing their coursework and doctoral research in cutting-edge areas such as Artificial Intelligence (AI), Machine Learning (ML), Cybersecurity, Data Analytics, Cloud Computing, and Computer Networks. The inclusion of Ph.D. programs has enriched the research culture within the department, encouraging both faculty and students to engage in high-impact research and collaborative projects.
To strengthen experiential learning and bridge the gap between academia and industry, the department is equipped with state-of-the-art Centers of Excellence and industry-supported laboratories. These include the AR/VR Lab, which provides exposure to immersive technologies; the Intel Unnati Lab, which fosters hardware–software integration and IoT-based innovation; and the AI Spry Lab, established in collaboration with industry partners to promote hands-on learning in artificial intelligence and machine learning domains. These laboratories not only enhance students’ practical skills but also serve as incubation centers for innovative projects and research.
The department’s faculty members are highly qualified and dedicated professionals who continuously upgrade their knowledge through research, publications, workshops, and faculty development programs. Their mentorship has been instrumental in guiding students toward academic excellence, innovation, and ethical professional practice.
The CSE department has consistently achieved strong placement records over the years. Students have been placed in leading multinational companies such as Virtusa, Wipro, Accenture, TCS, Infosys, Big Works and Capgemini, with top packages reaching up to ₹26 LPA. The department maintains an average pass percentage of around 85%, demonstrating its academic rigor and quality teaching standards.
With a clear vision to nurture globally competent computing professionals, the Department of Computer Science and Engineering continues to strive for excellence in education, research, and innovation. By integrating academic learning with industrial exposure and research-based problem-solving, the department aims to produce graduates and scholars who can contribute meaningfully to the technological advancement of society.
