Research Facilities

The department offers state-of-the-art Research and Development (R&D) facilities that support innovation, experimentation, and advanced project execution in the domains of electrical engineering, renewable energy, power systems, IoT, electric vehicles, and computational modelling. These facilities are designed to enhance research productivity, enable interdisciplinary collaboration, and provide hands-on exposure to modern technologies.

1. Equipment-Based Research Facilities

EV Refurbishing Centre

This facility enables research on electric vehicle technologies, including battery management systems, motor control, regenerative braking, and the retrofitting of conventional IC-engine vehicles into electric vehicles. It supports sustainable mobility innovation and real-time experimentation on EV performance improvement.

Solar Rooftop Working Model (160 kW)

The solar power plant serves as a live laboratory for studying renewable energy generation, inverter performance, MPPT algorithms, grid integration, and solar energy forecasting. It supports both academic and industrial R&D in photovoltaic system optimization.

Net Metering System

The net metering setup provides an experimental environment to study power exchange optimization between solar generation and the grid. It supports the development of advanced energy management algorithms, smart metering techniques, and demand-side management research.

GPU Power Analyzer

This facility supports high-speed computation and data processing for simulation-intensive research in power systems, load flow analysis, energy efficiency evaluation, and real-time monitoring. GPU acceleration enables faster execution of deep-learning models and complex grid simulations.

Symmetrical and Asymmetrical Fault Analysis Setup

This system allows researchers to analyse, detect, and model different types of power system faults. It aids in understanding protection schemes, system stability, relay coordination, and reliability enhancement of electrical networks.

IoT System Design Centre

A dedicated facility for IoT-based research, enabling prototype development in automation, smart sensor networks, cloud integration, and data analytics. It supports innovations in smart grids, smart buildings, industrial monitoring, and intelligent infrastructure.

2. Simulation Software for R&D

MATLAB / Simulink

A powerful platform for modelling and simulation of electrical, electronic, control, renewable energy, and power system applications. It is extensively used for algorithm development, system optimization, AI/ML-based analysis, and simulation-based experimental validation.

Cadence Design Tools

This software enables advanced VLSI design, IC layout verification, device modeling, and PCB design. It supports semiconductor R&D and electronic system development, making it ideal for circuit-level and chip-level innovations.

ANSYS Multiphysics

An advanced simulation suite for electrical, thermal, structural, and electromagnetic analysis. It helps researchers develop high-performance products, optimize designs, and conduct detailed simulations under various environmental and load conditions.
