The Department of Civil Engineering at Marri Laxman Reddy Institute of Technology and Management (MLRITM) is equipped with a comprehensive set of 16 specialized laboratories that support academic learning, practical skill development, research, and industry-oriented training. Each laboratory is meticulously designed to provide students with hands-on experience that complements theoretical knowledge and meets the evolving needs of the construction and infrastructure sectors.

The laboratories are furnished with modern testing equipment, precision instruments, software tools, and field-oriented apparatus, ensuring accurate experimentation and real-time understanding of civil engineering concepts. These facilities cover all major domains—including structural engineering, geotechnical engineering, transportation, hydraulics, surveying, environmental engineering, CAD/BIM, and material testing—thereby preparing students to meet professional standards and industry expectations with confidence.

Surveying Laboratory

This laboratory enables students to understand the fundamental principles of land surveying and measurement techniques. It provides hands-on training in using traditional and modern surveying instruments such as theodolites, total stations, levels, chains, and GPS devices for preparing maps, measuring distances, angles, and elevations.

Strength of Materials Laboratory

The SOM lab helps students study the mechanical behavior of materials under various loading conditions. Experiments include tensile, compression, torsion, hardness, impact, and bending tests, enabling students to determine material properties such as Young’s modulus, toughness, strength, and ductility.

Data Structures Laboratory Using Python

This lab introduces students to computational problem-solving techniques using Python. It focuses on implementing data structures such as stacks, queues, linked lists, trees, and graphs, which are essential for developing logical thinking and foundational programming skills required in engineering applications.

Structural Modeling Laboratory

The Structural Modeling Lab trains students in developing analytical models of structural systems using engineering software such as STAAD.Pro and ETABS. Students learn structural behavior, load application, stability checks, and design interpretation for real-world structures.

Computer-Aided Drawing Laboratory

This laboratory provides students with practical skills in drafting and detailing engineering drawings using AutoCAD and similar CAD tools. Students learn to create plans, elevations, sections, and structural detailing essential for construction and design documentation.

Fluid Mechanics & Hydraulic Machinery Laboratory

This lab helps students understand fluid behavior and hydraulic principles through experiments on flow measurement, friction losses, pumps, turbines, and hydraulic equipment. It supports theoretical learning in fluid mechanics and hydraulic engineering.

Basic Electrical and Electronics Engineering Laboratory

BEEL lab introduces civil engineering students to the fundamentals of electrical circuits, wiring systems, electronic devices, motors, and sensors. It enhances understanding of electrical safety and applications in buildings and infrastructure.

Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Laboratory

The GIS Lab provides training in spatial data analysis, remote sensing, mapping, and geospatial technologies. Students learn to use GIS software such as QGIS/ArcGIS for land-use planning, infrastructure mapping, environmental analysis, and surveying applications.

Concrete Technology Laboratory

This lab focuses on concrete mix design, material testing, and evaluation of properties of cement, fine and coarse aggregates, fresh and hardened concrete. Experiments include slump test, compressive strength test, setting time, and durability checks.

This lab provides hands-on experience in testing materials used for highway construction including bitumen, aggregates, and soil. Experiments include marshal stability, Los Angeles abrasion, penetration test, and designing pavement layers.
